The Quarter Notes are a variety band who play a pleasant mix of jazz, pop, vintage soul and country. Their vocal renditions of popular classics have earned them a substantial local following. Don’t be surprised if Pete wears something completely “off the wall” as Pete himself would tell you, “It’s all part of the show.”

Magnum Mangkang born and raised in Thailand will be guest artist and will be on display July 8-August 8, 2006. Mangkang was the leading flame worker with Master German Glassblower Hans Godo Frabel for the past 10 years in Georgia, until last year when he entered the horizon solo. Mangkang burst into the arena as Glasscraft’s Best Emerging Artist Award Winner in February 2006. Mangkang specializes in exotic textures, organic glass structures and jewelry design.
Micah Evans born and raised in the Seattle Washington area, most notably recognized as the premier glass art area will also be featuring his “Cage Series”. Evans is a published writer and instructor for the Glass Industry. He currently is in a teaching position at the University in Miami. Evans specializes in glass botanical arrangements and surface color.

As a songwriter and a performer, Willie Nelson played a vital role in post-rock & roll country music. Although he didn’t become a star until the mid-‘70s, Nelson spent the ‘60s writing songs that became hits for stars like Ray Price (“Night Life”), Patsy Cline (“Crazy”), Faron Young (“Hello Walls”), and Billy Walker (“Funny How Time Slips Away”) as well as releasing a series of records on Liberty and RCA that earned him a small, but devoted, cult following. During the early ‘70s, Nelson aligned himself with Waylon Jennings and the burgeoning outlaw country movement, which made him into a star in 1975. Following the crossover success of that year’s The Red Headed Stranger and “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain,” Nelson was a genuine star, as recognizable in pop circles as he was to the country audience; in addition to recording, he also launched an acting career in the early ‘80s.
Even after becoming a star, Willie never played it safe musically. Instead, he borrowed from a wide variety of styles, including traditional pop, Western swing, jazz, traditional country, cowboy songs, honky tonk, rock & roll, folk, and the blues, creating a distinctive, elastic hybrid. Nelson remained at the top of the country charts until the mid-‘80s, when his lifestyle—which had always been close to the outlaw clichés his music flirted with—began to spiral out of control, culminating in an infamous battle with the IRS in the late ‘80s. During the ‘90s, he remained a vital icon in country music, having greatly influenced the new country, new traditionalist, and alternative country movements of the ‘80s and ‘90s as well as leaving behind a legacy of classic songs and recordings. July 21 at 7:30 PM The Storybook Theater Company at The Sands Theater in DeLand will be opening its second summer youth performance production, “The Phantom Tollbooth,” on July 21 at 7:30 PM. Additional performances will be July 22, 23, 29 & 30 at 2:30 PM, and July 28 at 7:30 PM. This show based on the classic novel written by Norton Juster has been adapted and written for the stage by Susan Nanus and is directed by Darlene J. Stewart, the Sands Theater Center Education Director. The play features the talents of 24 of our local upper elementary and middle school students. JoJo Hennessy and Austin Champoux are double cast in the role of “Milo” the young man who makes the journeys to the wonderful lands beyond the Phantom Tollbooth. July 14 - September 3 there will be three featured artists. The lower gallery will host abstract photographer Randall Smith and innovative ceramics by Steve Howell. In the upper gallery will be the realistic heroic paintings by Richard Currier. Opening reception will be held on Friday, July 14 from 5PM - 7PM. The public is invited.

September 15 - November 19 a Thirty Year Retrospective by Stetson University's Dan Gunderson will display primarily ceramic sculptures in the lower gallery. Internationally respected photographer Clyde Butcher will show large format photographs of Florida Everglades. Opening reception is on Friday, September 15 from 5PM - 7PM and is open to the public.

November 24 - 25 The DeLand Museum Shop will host the 4th Annual Holiday Showcase featuring various artists and their creations in all mediums. Exact times to be announced.

(Daytona Beach, FL) This Labor Day weekend, the Daytona Beach Symphony Society is unleashing “The Other Side of the Symphony Society” as it presents the first annual Daytona Beach Jazz Escape. Bring a chair to City Island Park, September 2 - 4, and relax to three days of smooth vibes from top international, national and local jazz artists.

The riverside festival opens Saturday, September 2 with vocalist Khani Cole, Walter Beasley, Spryo Gyra, and headliner Jean-Luc Ponty. Sunday is a full day and night of music, including guitarist Peter White and “The Queen of Blues” Koko Taylor and her Blues Machine. Monday brings Nestor Torres, Everette Harp, and Brian Culbertson featuring Eric Darius on sax. Several local jazz artists will also perform during the weekend event.

Set in Edwardian England. The play follows the exploits of Aeneas Posket, Chief Magistrate of Mulberry Street Police court, as he sets forth upon an illicit nocturnal visit with his stepson Cis to the infamous Hotel des Princes, run by the outrageous Madame Blonde. Unknown to him his young wife Agatha also happens secretly, but for different reasons, to be dining there. The consequences for this incorruptible pillar of Victorian society turn out to be both embarrassing and hilarious.

Harry comes up against his uncle's insanely jealous and legally blind mistress, her optometrist brother and Annabel Glick, a zealous representative from the Universal Dog Home determined to see Harry's inheritance "go to the dogs."

The fun begins when the men accidentally lock themselves into the new meat freezer in the basement, and the ladies must decide whether to let them out.

ARTS FESTIVAL TO BE HELD AT DAYTONA BEACH JAZZ ESCAPE


(Daytona Beach, FL) The first annual Daytona Beach Jazz Escape will be a feast for the eyes as well as ears, as area fine artists have an opportunity to showcase their talents at the Daytona Beach Jazz Escape Art Festival, September 2 - 4. A visual complement to the outdoor jazz music festival, the juried art show will be held on festival grounds at City Island Park in Daytona Beach. The Daytona Beach Jazz Escape Art Festival is seeking twenty artists to exhibit items that are original and individually handcrafted by the artist. The artist must be present at the Jazz Escape Art Festival, which will open daily 2 hours prior to the start of the music festival.

Over 15,000 jazz and arts enthusiasts are expected to attend the three-day riverside festival in downtown Daytona Beach. Top international, national and regional jazz artists scheduled to perform include Jean-Luc Ponty, Nestor Torres, Brian Culbertson featuring Eric Darius on sax, Spyro Gyra, Everette Harp, Walter Beasley, Khani Cole, Koko Taylor and her Blues Machine, Peter White, Adalberto Bravo and the Original Superstars of Jazz Fusion.


The event is sponsored by the Daytona Beach Symphony Society, a very large and active partner in the Daytona Beach cultural world for over 50 years. Our panels are made entirely of sanded, furniture grade birch plywood.
The frames are ¾” material, mitered at the corners, with the face panel of ¼” ply. The standard overall thickness is 2”. The sizes listed below are merely for reference; since all panels are made to order, most any thickness, dimension or specification can be achieved.
